A very common plant which flowers several times a year.
The normal form has white striped leaves, there is also a variegated and a crested form.

Leaves very numerous, somehow elongated – obovate, +_ 6 – 7 cm long, 1 – 2 cm wide, 5 – 7 mm thick; ventrally flat or slightly concave, dorsally convex and carinate; blue green, pruinose, mucronate. Leaves normally with white stripes ventrally as well as dorsally. Sepals adpressed, unequal, shorter than petals. Petals orange red with yellow tips. Petal appendages rudimentary or lacking. Inflorescence mostly a simple one-sided raceme, pendent at the top. Sterile bracts on the inflorescence small and soon withering.
